the poor birds seem to have had a bad time of it this year! first all the snow, then the fauna all being late to come out and now its done nothing but rain for 8/9 days!!!
How will this affect the birds nesting, incubating etc?
My gardens gone very quiet. Is this because of the rain (and/or magpies)?

Hi
Yes the rain is depressing to say the least for man and bird I think.
Rain hasn't affected the birds in my garden, in fact the longtailtits are here far more frequently than they were during winter. In the winter they were regular feeders every day but for the past couple of weeks they seem to be here most of the day, either eating from the home made suet cake or hanging out in the garden.
The goldfinches that arrived at the beginning of the month are here for most of the day too. The only bird I am seeing less of is the male and female black birds, maybe because they are feasting on worms where there must be easy pickings with the soaked ground.
Interesting subject, I noticed the rain seemed to put the birds off a little in the winter but it doesn't appear to be the case now its spring.
The blue tits and great tits seem to have taken to the two nest boxes and they were here pretty late the last two nights, mind you we changed the clocks so it wasn't so late to them.
