It looks like we have the priviledge of a Blackbird building a nest in our back yard. It is in a drainpipe top that we use for planting flowers in. Unfortunately it is only some 4 feet off the grould and in an area of the yard in which we sit during the spring and summer. Will the Parents be put off if they try to feed any chicks and people are sat nearby? Will they be aggresive or distressed? Will they neglect the chicks if there is anyone around. I am wondering if it may be kinder in the long run to destroy the half built nest forcing the birds to nest elsewhere. I obviously don't want to do this so any advice?
Hello Marky boy
Welcome to the forum.
We were only talking about nesting blackbirds recently on a thread. I'm not an expert by the way, but we also and others on here have nesting blackbirds all within areas of the garden where people will be. Ours doesn't seem that bothered by us, but why not try sitting out there weather permitting to see if she gets distressed. Do you feed the birds as this helps the birds become more used to the human traffic in the garden. If she does seem worried then I wouldn't worry about destroying the nest as she will more than likely abandon it anyway.
I'm sure there will be others along soon with their own advice and suggestions. That's the beauty of this forum, lots of friendly people who will try and help you out. Good luck.
Regards
Kerry

Would not worry too much as we had one nest in a Honeysuckle within about two feet of our back door which we must use twenty times a day and they reared 3 or 4 chicks successfully,we just ignored them and one bonus for them was risk of predators there was very small.Good luck and enjoy them.Almost forgot welcome.
