As of today (25th March), my winter blackcaps (one male, one female) are both still in the garden, both still eating me out of house and home.
Not that I want them to go, but shouldn't they have migrated by now?
BB
Hi BB,
some Blackcaps are resident all year in the UK.
It depends on what part of the country you are in, if your'e in the warmer south then the chances are your birds will stay all year if there is an abundance of food.
Some birds move on to warmer climates, a few will stay in northwest Europe for winter and others move to south Europe.
The same can be said for some other migrants! Chiffchaff's can remain in warmer southern areas.
Hope this helps!
Regards Buzzard

I've still got two male blackcaps who show no inclination to leave home. Haven't seen the female recently but she may still be around.

My female Blackcap Is still here eating plenty,It would be nice If she had a mate but she Is always on her own. I do hope she stays. The other female and male only stopped off once and I haven't seen them since.

My male and female are still around as well.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
