Reed Buntings

We have a few fruit trees at the bottom of our garden and Gardeners World recommended putting feeders amongst them so the birds would eat the harmful insects while eating the bird food.

The birds seen to like them and are visiting regularly.

We have reed bunting in the garden but hadn't seen many lately. Yesterday I went to watch the new feeders as we can't see them from the house. The reed buntings were feeding from the seed feeder - they aren't very good at balancing on the perches!

I thought they were only ground feeders?

Will try to get some pictures.

    Hi jazzcat,

Reed Buntings regulary visit feeders during winter and spring months when there is a shortage of natural food!

They mostly feed on insects during summer months, but will eat seeds on the ground and hung low in trees or bushes.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards Buzzard
