Has anyone else witnessed carrion crows catching and eating toads?
I have a pair of resident crows in my garden who regularly catch fish and newts from my pond, but I have just witnessed one of them stalking, catching and eating a toad; is this normal? I thought toads were unpalatable but obviously not to crows!
Never seen one eat a toad before but did watch one down at the beach rooting amoung the rocks and come out with a crab which it made short work of.
Was amasing to watch

Hi Suzanne
I think they will eat what ever they can get, alive or not, much like a magpie.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
I agree with Janet that Crows are diverse feeders, and they are not fussy what they eat as long as it is edible.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
