Is it normal for a male chaffinch to have vivid yellow markings on its wings,or has it been spending to much time with one of the local goldfinches ?
Welcome, Andrew.
Could it be a greenfinch? They have yellow flashes on their wings, and the females are more brownish-olive than green.

Hello badgerbread, no its definately a chaffinch ,a male all the normal markings except the vivid yellow,I will have to get the camera out I think!
Hello Andrew, and welcome 'back' to the RSPB forum
Yes, the male chaffinch does have yellow colouring in his wings - more noticable in flight than when the bird is resting.
