Hi, i came back home today and there was alot of pidgeon feathers right in front of my window, theres a bit of blood on them and what looks like a skull, but theres nothing else, i think it would of been a female sparrowhawk as they catch bigger prey, but would it of plucked it and just took off with it?? i've search my garden for more remains but theres nothing....im very dissapointed that i missed it, would have been amazing to watch!!!

What a shame you missed it all. It sounds to me as though the sparrowhawk made her catch and ate it in front of your window, leaving behind the nasty bits.

Hi Dani, as Sparrow says, there are very few remains left by a sparrowhawk. Pity you missed it, but if it was that close to your window, maybe not !
certainly sounds like a Sparrowhawk - and since the prey was a pigeon its a safe bet it was a female as they're bigger.
It would have eaten it there (which can be a bit grisly to watch!) as a Sparrowhawk wouldn't be able to fly carrying something like a pigeon.
Random trivia: once when the male caught THAT Starling (the one the screamed) in our garden he was disturbed and threw it in the bush and came back for it later.

That sounds a bit gruesome for you.
I hope that he had killed it first and didn't just leave it screaming in a bush!

The Starling was dead (THANKFULLY!) when the male Sparrowhawk threw it in the bush. That was another behaviour I'd never seen - returning for prey like that.
Speaking of Sparrowhawks, the female has just flown over. I now have full and very empty feeders!
