Here is a picture of "Punky" one of my blue tits, he has lost most of his feathers on the top of his head - if you look very closely you can see just a couple of fluffy feathers sticking up. He is a real character, he flies to my hand for a mealworm but always chickens out about 2 inches away - One day hey ho
You have no control over what life & people throw at you - but you have full control over how you deal with it!
My mum has a female blackbird which always goes bald during the breeding season. We assume it's down to the nest's location (ie having to constantly go in & out of thick vegetation)

Hi Lloyd
Poor Mr Blackbird. That look does nothing for his dandy personality.
It will be interesting to know what is causing the discomfort for the birds
Never seen a bald Female blackbird yet, and I could see the brushing of the feathers with branches causing feather loss.
I had a Male Blackbird that suffered badly from having no long Tail feathers. I am sure it was because he spent a lot of his time fighting, and he came across as a bruiser. Each time there was any sign of feather regrowth the new feather disappeared, so he spent all summer tailess. So we called him Mr Notail
He also suffered from feather loss elsewhere on his body so he looked a scruffy boy - the loss of feathers was not heavy in the same place as the pictures of Punky and the Male Blackbird show us here.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Oh bless! The poor thing looks like a minature vulture!
Bit of good news - Punky's feathers are starting to grow back, he had about 6-7 today and looks quite funny!
I will try again to put the picture on - fingers crossed
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl, I can see Punky at last. So glad to hear that his feathers are starting to grow again. Thanks for putting his picture on yet again.
Thank goodness it worked this time - it is hit and miss!!
I can see him now. Poor little thing. At least he can't see himself in a mirror!!! Glad to hear his feathers are growing back. He should get back to normal fairly soon.
Cheers, Linda.

That's great news about Punky's feathers. I do hope it won't be too long before he is completely back to normal.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
So good to hear positive news about Punky's feathers.
Punky needs to get his looks, and his confidence back

Oh he is a smart little thing and very bolshy! He is always the first to get the mealworms I throw down, and is constantly at the feeders.
I will wait a few more days and take another pic for you to see, hopefully you will see the difference in him.
Bless! At least with a constant supply of food he should make a good recovery!
