Has anybody got any tips on what Bulfinches like to eat? I've got two pairs regularly visiting my feeders. I just wondered what everyone else was giving them.
Cheers

Why is there never enough time?
I don't have any I'm sad to say, but I know they are particularly fond of sunflower hearts.
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Hi Bramble67. I'm dead chuffed with mine and I really want to keep them coming, especially as I've heard that they're not common on garden feeders. I already put out sunflower hearts but they struggle to get a look in with the Gold and Greenfinches. I was wondering if they liked fruit? or something that I could put out so they could get a look in without being bullied off. Any tips gratefully received!!
cheers
We see them and at this time of year they will eat the sunflower hearts and any fruit I leave out, but they will eat tree buds and later in the year when the soft fruits start ripening they will prefer them. We have quite a few cherry farms around here and the owners have quite a battle with the bullfinches for the ripened fruit.
Hello Brenda,
Do you think if i hung up a couple of halved apples they would go for them? I don't see them on the ground much so maybe hung up in the tree would be good?
I don't find any of my birds are too keen on apples, but I know others on here find theirs do. Our blackbirds, one thrush and bullfinch (when they visit ) prefer soft pears, split grapes or even soaked raisins. ( that is what I put out at the moment on a bird table )
I'll have a go with those.
Thanks
Hi Ladybird,
I had my first ever visit today from a bulfinch, so had a look at what they eat. Apparently they like black sunflower seeds as well as sunflower hearts. You could try those as goldfinches won't eat them.
Cheers, Linda.
