We have started seeing reed buntings in our garden for the first time - they have been visiting since the bad weather.
We now have 6 males and several females coming to the garden every day - has anyone else noticed these birds?
We live on the Beds/Herts border - just a few miles from where the large flock of corn buntings were seen recently.
Hi jazzcat, welcome to the forum.
Reed Buntings are normally found in wet vegetation and reed beds, but they are regularly seen on farmland and, in winter, driven into urban gardens in search of food.
Over the last few months many members have posted sightings in their gardens.
Hope this helps.

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Hello Jazzcat, as Buzzard has said, there have been quite a few people on site saying they have seen Reed Buntings in their garden, but it must be lovely for you to see them so near to your house. Enjoy.
Thank you for your replies and your welcome.
Yes they are lovely - today we have counted 10 males and a few females.
They seem to enjoy the seed mix we are putting out .
Today they were joined by a yellowhammer - it's a first for our garden - he has returned again this afternoon so hopefully he will become a regular too.
I may have seen one in my garden earlier today - I'm in North Herts - but whatever it was flew away before I could positively identify it. I'll keep my eyes open for it again and see if I can get a better look!
Welcome to the forum Jazcat,
What a great sight in your garden - and a yellow hammer! I've never seen a yellow hammer in the flesh. Lucky you.
Cheers, Linda.
