Hi
Just wondered if anyone else has a tame(ish) wren? I have a beautiful little wren who takes mealworms from my hand every day. I also have a robin who does the same, and a little blue tit who keeps flying towards my hand but chickens out about 2 inches away - I am hoping it will trust me enough to take the last step soon!! This little blue tit has only a couple of scraggy feathers on its head, so I call him "Punky"

Congrats to you, Chez. I have never heard of a Wren doing this and it is, indeed, a privilege. My own Wren regularly comes to the dish of mealworms and, like yours, can see of half a dozen at a time. She (funny how you assume the sex of your birds, isn't it? I mean, it's not as if she is wearing a bra but she is a 'she' to me) was bolder when the snow was on the ground and that obviously means she was hungrier and less wary.
I do have 3 or 4 Robins, one of which became tame enough to take mealworms out of my hand during the cold spell. This Robin never seems worried by my presence and has almost brushed me when flying past. Cute little so and so with a black, beady eye and those puffed out crimson feathers.
I have noticed a less fanatic approach to food from all of the birds in my garden over this past week. Indeed, I was outside today sowing seeds and heard a myriad of birdsong - Blackbird, Song Thrush, Great Tit. I guess love is in the air. Or procreation, anyway.

Yes I have noticed, especially today that less birds are coming for food - I too can hear a lot of singing so suppose something is going on!!
We have a rookery over the road from us so I have to feed the birds behind/under cages as the rooks eat everything in seconds. I cannot put any home made fat balls out at night for the birds to eat first thing in the morning as I have 3 badgers who come for their supper every night and the little blighters upturn the cage and eat the food. I suppose they like the lard/suet in the mix!! My hubby thinks I am mad 'cos I go out and feed the birds first thing still in my dressing gown so the little things aren't hungry!! Nice to see from the forum that I am not the only daft (in the nicest possible sense!) bird lover out there!!
We have a pergola thing near the back door and it has a lot of last years clematis growth on it and the wren is always hiding in there so I can't cut it down - soft beggers aren't we??!!
