I sometimes bake my own Brioche bread ( mainly wheatflour dough, butter, small amount of sugar). The birds get some as a special treat and seem to love it as evident by the bluetit in the first photo.I would like to be reassured that it will not be harmful to them. Does anyone know?
Too cold to venture out today, but lots of birds around the feeders in between wet snow flurrys

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
Probably not in small doses though white bread, while filling, isn't hugely nutritious for birds. It's a bit like us feasting on nachos. Nice, but it isn't doing us much good.
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
It does have eggs and sometimes cheese or crushed nuts in it too, does that make it any better?

Hi Birdwatcher
Home made brioche with butter eggs & crushed nuts. Mmmmm my mouth is watering already. I'm sure that the birds love it. ....How far are you from Newbury Berks?.......
Best wishes Chris

Think that small amounts of bread mean your birds are lucky especially in the cold weather of past two months, much more goodness in it than many would have us believe.Bet there are a lot of jealous birds if they miss out on your treat.
Lovely photos Birdwatcher. As others have said, small amounts are probably okay but bread isn't really an ideal food for any birds - including those at the local pond (i.e. ducks and geese etc).
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
I think you are right, I will stop feeding it to them. I had thought the addition of butter eggs and nuts would have benefited them. I will stick to the mixed fruit in future.I never ever ever feed processed white bread or any other to birds in general. On Christmas afternoon, we went for a walk to Herrington National Park and I took swan and duck food. I was like the pied piper, they were following me up the lakeside in the snow. Never been so popular
