It was good to see that the case against the Derbyshire 'keeper was successful,the 100 hours community service and £10,000 costs will hopefully send a message out that this is not to be tollerated,well done to the RSPB investigations team and the police wildlife officers.It is of course a great pity that it has to come to this because of a very small minority of keepers and land owners many of whom are as keen on wildlife as the rest of us.

Yes like Seaman says a few rogue keepers spoil it for those who like wildlife like the rest of us,we must keep it in context that it is only odd ones who persecute wildlife but they do a lot of damage.

Quite agree with that Sooty,the ones that work hard for the benefit of the wildlife do not get the praise very often,I suupose there is no news in that.
Thanks Seaman nice that people think alike on things like this,although everyone deserves lots of praise for lots of hard work and clever detection as the Peak District is close to our heart especially this particular area we have visited quite a lot since courting there nearly 50 years ago.It must be as bad as your own area for B O P persecution and perhaps the common denominator being Grouse Moors.What I find bad about it is that if his boss pays the fine he got off scot free,what a pity they do not take their firearms off of them and the certificate or put both in jail.
I think in Scotland the move is o make the landowner/shoot owner responsible for the crime as in most cases the keeper is obeying orders to keep his job and in many cases his accomodation.I know this may be a simplified view but it may be in the right direction

Yes, Seaman, the Scottish Parliament is introducing a Bill with clauses designed to make land owners vicariously liable for the poisoning of birds on their land.
