I am not anti hunt, coursing or country folks way of life. But i cannot understand why anyone would want to hand rear, feed and create the tamest wild bird in the land just so the can scare it up and shoot it. They call killing the tamest bird in the country sport. mmmmmmmmmmmmm i'm missing something here.
You see these pheasants walking along roads not a care in the world. No fear of man in most of them. I cannot think of anything sicker than breeding &taming birds to kill. where is the sport in that?
if you want to hunt foxes, shoot rabbits or chase hares & rabbits with dogs get on with it, at least these animals have a sporting chance. But killing tame birds is not sport.

A smile will open more doors than any key.
Of course another way of looking at it is that it is a business and therefore part of the rural economy.Certainly in our area most of the large shoots are run on a commercial basis many of them hosting corporate entertainment days and in doi

Surely these people could find something else to shoot. they could join the army they'd find them plenty to shoot at.

I took these images a few days ago. It was good to see the Pheasants relaxed and happy in the garden.
This hen shares the dust bowl with the cat.

There was a nice piece about pheasants on the One Show this evening, nice bit of film of two males fighting.
She's certainly enjoying that we had a sparrow having one in the garden yesterday no chance today too much rain lol.

I am anti hunt and have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years... and i'm only 29 !! (gulp!!)
I wish personally it were legal to chase hunters with a cattle prod and a tank and see how they do.... (oops might have gone a bit far there!! but it annoys the hell outta me!!)

Owning a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer... it makes you a Nikon owner!
hi pipit.
i can understand people killing for food because without animals being bred for food there would be even more people starving in the world.
but to breed and rear a bird to kill for sport or a so called jolly boys outing i do not understand.
is it asimilar scenario to the christians and the lions?
ps
great photo's of the pheasants. how could anyone want to shoot those for fun?
a man i know taught his cats to sleeep with his pigeons by squirting them with water everytime the cats had a foody thought. it worked brilliantly. it was realy something to see a cat sleeping in a pigeon shed.
