This is one where those responsible should not take their eye off the ball. The current number of tiger in India is 1700 whereas it used to be 100,000+. I can recall when Operation Tiger started, comment was made that the decline of a predator such as the tiger was likely to follow a decline until predator / prey numbers were such that a temporary increase would occur. At which point it was conjectured that pressure would again be placed on the species and it might decline to extinction.
I do hope that that prophesy is not coming true and that measures can be taken to turn this increase into a continuing development.
