Shot Swans

I have just watched an article on local TV about nine swans shot with an air rifle on the Somerset levels, one has survived after having surgery they are not sure it's going to make it.

Words fail me,this is a despicable act I hope whoever did this is caught a given a suitable punishment.

    hi Chris

    Thank you for your information.

Yes, it is a bit of an eye opener to say the least - it sounds that cross bows can be bought easily but what happens if they get into the wrong hands ie someone who is young away for parental supervision?  not the full shilling etc....?

    Regards

  • I really hope that this does not go unpunished someone out there knows who did this.

So if a person can be fined 20,000 for having unregisterd wild birds what is this worth?

    Hi Mike

Exactly the price of money fits the crime and if the recent legal case in Norfolk is anything to go by I hope the same applies to this case too.

If it is slap on the wrist it will be more than an insult for the shot birds who have a right to live out their lives in peace and tranquality.

Under the story, I see that the comments that have been added show how people really feel about the whole problem with who shot the Swans - and someone must know the culprit.

Bedford: In 2009, 29 mute Swans where shot along with a BoP and a Heron, and they where left in a shallow grave in a field.   The local police managed to get one single bullet as evidence and they lost it - so the whole Court Case went down the pan

I pray to goodness the Police in Somerset do not lose the evidence please!!!!

    Regards

It's all the more tragic if, as suggested in the first of Kathy's articles, the swans were previously saved from the ice during the winter. This is just so sad.

Some more news about this story and it appears an award is offered for any information about the Swans demise now

The locals are enraged and bless them for taking a stance as they have done so to collect money for the reward.

Hope this stirs up some emotions in people to come forward and tell the Police who the person is that is responsible for this sick act
