I was sad to read in the RSPB headlines that a new report reveals that persecution is still threatening Hen Harriers.

Think someone put on a blog somewhere that U U and RSPB had let some photographer set up a hide close to a nest and the birds deserted the nest,also reported that it was thought a Eagle Owl had been seen very close to another nest and the eggs or chicks went from that nest and was suggested even taken one of the adults but of course the truth difficult to find as some people have a grudge against Eagle Owls,think for sure true about photographer.

Rather than seeing them 'come back' like the Red Kites (which were nearly extinct in Britain and have been the subject of a MASSIVE reintroduction programme since the 80's), I would like to see them better protected now! I'm pretty sure that the laws are enforced more strongly in Scotland (but not 100%) on this. And the RSPB in Scotland is currently part of a partnership with several grouse shooting estates that have joined together to conserve heather moorland and the hen harrier, and so that the shooting estates can show that they arent part of the persecution, although I do agree that shooting estates are the biggest persecutors and threat to these and other birds of prey, esp red kite.

I am glad to hear that there has been an attempt to help the Hen Harrier along the way to being a success story ... going on at this moment of time. It is really re-educating people from scratch so they are better informed about BoP's and their hunting habits - and their rights as a living creature to live out their lives along beside people.
Part of the ignorance shown is the lack of knowledge and finger pointing that tends to go on when BoP's hunt for their food. Some landowners assume that the BoP's hunt for their own livestock no matter what the livestock may be lambs, birds, fish - so wrong of them to do that
Just to create habitats for the Hen Harrier is a bonus as the bird can hunt for its natural food and be part of the eco-system goes without saying for the birds future
Hen Harriers are bird that are very distinctive due to their colouration and that makes the stand out like a sore thumb so makes them an easy target. Their fllying is very flamboyant so they are the clown of the sky
Love to see them being the birds they are in 20-30 years

Even though we are seeing a lot more Red Kites around now thanks to the introduction programme they are still subjected to persecution even though they are mainly scavengers (the Yorkshire Red Kites web site has some info on this ).No doubt the same would happen if Hen Harriers were introduced maybe more so as they are so hated by shoot owners so maybe the answer is that the law needs more clout and the removal of grants that are attached to the moor.

The whole point being you have to have means of catching them,almost impossible ,think in the last decade of persecution only two were accused and not even sure that a conviction was possible,
Hung drawn and quartered no good even if you cannot catch them.All B O P lovers need to wise up.
Sorry if truth upsets people but another century like the last one rolling on and already a decade wasted.
