I was innocently browsing through Twitter when the excellent Chris Packham highlighted this petition. Perhaps we can arrange for all the rabid hunting supporters to be absent from the ensuing debate.
It's currently standing at 4,970 signatures.
I'm adding a link to the petition to license driven grouse shooting even though I'd personally like to see it consigned to history. Licensing it is probably better than nothing at all.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Blimey, I've just read Mark Avery's blog on the culling of LBB gulls on Bowland. I'd no idea this was going on. It just makes me sick to my stomach. And there was I naively thinking that Natural England was on the side of wildlife. It seems not. No wonder Hen Harriers are under such threat.
Thanks for the link Clare

TJ, News to me, too--terrible!
Kind regards, Ann
Let's hope that this one reaches,or exceeds, the numbers where parliament has to discuss the problem. If anyone followed the last attempt it seemed a bit of a whitewash at the discussion stage, the facts put forward by the RSPB and others seemed to be ignored but at least it put the problem out there for the public to see what is happening in our beautiful countryside. As the recording area for our little club based in Nidderdale is surrounded by grouse moors and most of the owners seem hell bent on keeping the area at the top of the league for the area with the highest wildlife crime figures. We feel pretty helpless about this as all we can do is sign petitions and get out there on the moors to show we care.
