Neighbours Taking Shots at the Birds!

Hi all,

I feel like all I do is come here with problems, sorry!

We have the decorator in this week and is doing one of the back bedrooms and he said he could hear some funny noises this afternoon, which turned out to be the nextdoor neighbours - with some form of gun!

They were firing it to make all the birds take off in our garden and then taking shots at them as they took off!

He's said who it was, the neighbour's son mostly but his mates too, like some sort of sick game.

From what I could see when I came home tonight there aren't any dead birds - and if I get my way there won't be!

If this continues to be their latest hobby I'll be going straight to the police!  I'll also make sure to take photos and god forbid they get any birds, I'll keep them too.

I'm just so angry I cannot put it into words!  But I could do with some advice; if this happens again  does anyone know if there is anyone in particular I should be getting in contact with?

It all just beggars belief, it really does...

PLease excuse my ignorance too, I wouldn't know an air rifle from any other 'gun'.  That and I was going with what the decorator told me, I'll have to see things for myself.

    Hi Paul

I'm sad and angry that this has happened next door to you. My own neighbours don't speak to us since I started feeding the birds, but even they would never stoop this low.

If it isn't an air rifle and the possible alternative is that it's a shotgun, then they would be in very serious trouble indeed for discharging it in any garden.

You would have heard a shotgun blast very loudly.

    Best wishes Chris

  • Hi Paul

Have just seen this thread, what a worrying time for you,  Makes my blood boil when I hear about this sort of malicious act carried out for no other reason but sick enjoyment.  I can only echo the advice already given, get as much evidence as possible, keep yourself, family and Bobby out of harms way.  I wish you luck please let us know how you get on.  I will certainly be thinking of you.

  • Geez, unbelievable really. If they do that in their own garden, goodness knows what goes on when there are less people watching.... good luck with sorting this Paul and keep safe.

  • Hi Paul

Just wanted to say how sorry I am that you have the most awful neighbours, people like that make me so angry.  It's sad that these days a lot of people have bad neighbours who make their lives hell. I think like everyone else is saying is to most of all keep you and yours as safe as possible, and not let them know how you feel about it as this will make them enjoy it all the more.

Hopefully these small minded people will only have the attention span of a gnat and will quickly move onto something else before any harm is done.

Hope everything is ok when you get home from work.

    Linda

    What a wonderful world :))

  • So sorry Paul. You definitely don't want to put yourself in the situation of any retaliation. You certainly need advice. I would even ask the police for advice, without making it a formal complaint. I have heard of a similar situation where the police drove around the area and just caught the culprits for themselves, without any names being mentioned, as the air gun pellets were going over the fence to a public area.

  • Hi everyone,

thank you for your comments, help and support with this.  I feel like I'm always coming here with some form of drama, so I do apologise!

This afternoon I've been picking up the little pellet things out of our garden, which goes to show they've been firing into our garden.  I have bagged them up and fully intend on keeping them.

My sister's boyfriend shoots (clay pigeons), he says they're out of a BB gun.  They're plastic, and being bright green stuck out like a sore thumb in the garden when I started looking for them!

The youngest vile creature (who's 14-ish) was out in the street with it the other afternoon (I was working till 11pm so didn't see it), but I'm pretty sure that's an offence in itself!

  • aye they are  from whats called an Air soft BB gun

you have some proof now so get intouch with the police and let them know whats happening . It is an offence to have a BB gun out on the street .

One good thing is they wont kill the birds but it will bl**dy hurt them though.

    Hope thats a help.

    Cheers

If its no fun Yer no doin it right!

  • Hi Al,

thanks again, your insight is proving helpful for me :o)

I thought that was correct about it being an offence to have a BB gun in the street.  Am I right in thinking its also an offence for these to be in our garden as it shows they're not using it in their garden?

I was sort of glad (stupid as that sounds) to find these plastic things in our garden, I was worried as to what they'd been using and doing.  I had a feeling the plastic ones would just hurt rather than kill.

I'm holding on them though that's for sure!

  • No Its not an offence to have one in your garden .... IF they have a proper backstop behind the targets. But if you are finding the BB's in your back garden it is.

Wish I could explane this better.

If the BB's land in your garden you can get the police or the RSPB involved if you have proof that they have been shooting at the birds on your feeders.

Look round the garden and find where the BB's are and take a photo of where they landed . The closer to the feeders they are the better chance you have of the police doing something about it.

    Hope thats a help PaulE

    Cheers
