Proposed Badger Cull in Wales

Under another post, we've got into a discussion about the Welsh Assembly and their stupid, nonsensical and utterly useless (no bias, honest!) plan to cull badgers in an attempt to prevent Bovine TB.

Squirrel posted a link to an RSPCA petition against the cull, and I thought I would put it here too, in case anyone else would like to sign.

It only takes 30 seconds to sign, so please consider making this small effort to try and protect these fabulous animals.

Thanks,

Badgerbread

PS OK, I admit it, I am biased!!

  • Hi
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have signed the petition and emailed my friends.
Why don't they immunise the badgers and release them  instead of killing them. But there again politicians do not have any common sense.

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.

Thank you for letting us know.  I have signed the petition.

I only hope one day that all wildlife will be left in peace to live without the expense of being threatened by death of some type or another for whatever reason.  Or simply shot for the goodness what reason.

Live and let live should apply to all living beings.

    Regards

  • Hello.

Thanks for letting us know about this.  I've signed the petition, and find it sickening that these wonderful creatures should be targeted in such a callous manner.

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Thanks Badgerbread for starting this new thread. I have signed and sent it to all my friends. From the responses I have received from the MP's and AM's I doubt if it will make them change their minds but we have got to keep trying.

PLEASE PLEASE EVERYONE SIGN IT AND SEND TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS TOO.

I have got a pic of one of my badgers sharing her supper with a hedgehog but don't know how to post it (I know I am stupid but I have a kind heart!!) Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Signed and forwarded! Thank you!

  • Thanks Sparrow.

I think I have mastered the piccy problem so here goes. Has anyone seen a badger eating with a hedgehog before?  I have heard that badgers eat hedgehogs - but not in my garden.  Hope you all like it.

Badger & hedgehog communal dining is quite unusual - most hedgehogs won't go anywhere near badger territory; they can smell where the badger has been (as you will know if you have badgers, they have a fairly distinctive musky scent).

Some badgers have worked out how to 'crack open' a rolled-up hedgehog and eat it, but apparently that only occurs in certain places in the UK - I guess the trick is passed down in families, so it hasn't spread to all badgers.

Fabulous photo - my badgers won't touch banana, though they are partial to Iceland apple pie!!

  • Glad you can see the photo - I can't!!!

Their favorite food by far is grapes and cheese, although Betty Badger will come up and eat boiled ham out of my hand (long pieces rolled up as I am quite fond of my fingers!) But they will eat anything really.  My friend up the road feeds hers on any leftovers and spag bol always goes first!!

Here is a photo of Boris & Betty - I hope!!

  • Signed the petition- even tho' I'm a jock and come under the auspices of the SSPCA!!

Ridiculous policy, and as much as I can sympathise with affected farmers, a mindless cull of these animals surely isnt the best way forward.

    I even love magpies
