I had not seen one until about a month ago, and decided that it was a Thrush turning over the leaves at the edge of the pavement as I walked back home from the city. At least I thought it was a Thrush until I saw the beautiful stripe above its eye and the red flash under the wing. Had to wait until I got home to identify it.
I saw two in the garden yesterday too while doing the Birdwatch. Fabulous fabulous bird.
Got to agree with Kate's comments though about how hard the small birds are finding this winter .... haven't seen the robin for three weeks, the wren has disappeared and the family of 7 greenfinch is down to two .... only the wood pigeon seem unaffected.....

Hello Ian. Our wren seems to have gone as well. All our other birds seem fine though. Here's hoping the wrens return.
