Redwing in my garden

Hi there

So pleased after seeing one Redwing today in my garden ..... the same bird had reappeared a couple more times

This bird  loves the bits of apple on the ground.  It flies away with whole chunks of apple and then comes back again for more apple {apple thief}

Here are some pictures - sorry for the quality as the picture was taken through glass and the flash kept going off.

The 3rd picture shows My friendly Mr Blackbird sizing up the competition on the bottom right of the picture

    Snap! I had one land and quickly go again, no photo, well done hope s/he stays for you.

    John :-)

    For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

  • Oh! Well done Blackbird. This will have cheered you up no end. I'm also very jealous.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Well done Kathy. We still haven't seen either redwing or fieldfare in the garden. Think I should get one of those signs, 'Santa stop here' and change the wording to R & F stop HERE.

  • Afternoon all, My family and I have just had a strange but enjoyable Saturday afternoon. Somewhere between 50 & 100 Redwings with a few intermingled Fieldfares spent at least two hours in the back garden in Tooting, London. My boy and I are fairly keen birdwatchers but I haven't seen either of these birds in London before. Is this a rare thing? Is the weather pushing them into Cities?
  • We've been so lucky in Fife to see some spectacular flocks of Fieldfares in town (Kirkcaldy). Here's a few snaps from my garden. Check the Redwing....

    cheers, stevec

  •  Hello Duke, I think they are being driven anywhere throughout the country. Cities are warmer and if they can spot berries, they will move in.

    Hello stevec, you have certainly got more than your fair share there. Lovely photographs. Thank you.

  • I've just seen my first pair of Redwings. I normally only get Doves, Pigeons, My Black bird and My Robin!!!! I'm going outside to put some apple out as you suggested........ Thanks Jan

  • Hi Blackbird - there seems to be several threads at the moment with either Redwings or Fieldfares being spotted in the garden I hope everyone manages to connect them all together as they are great reading - as always you have more patience than me and managed to get the photographs (great) - my first Redwing has been feeding today on raisins.

  • The fieldfares in my garden in west cornwall will only eat grapes and grated cheese.
