An opening post

What a good idea for a forum - well done whoever thought of it (though it might be too tempting to use to often, if you know what I mean!)

Make the boy interested in natural history if you can; it is better than games [Robert Falcon Scott]

  • I agree wholeheartedly.  What a fantasic idea.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • If I may be so bold as to suggest the Camera at RSPB Abernethy Forest nature reserve, I watched it for a lot of last Autumn to see the Red Squirrels in real time video feed bashing each other at the Squirrel feeder.

    Quote from page

"Feeders attracting red squirrels, hordes of coal tits, plus occasional crested tits, great spotted woodpeckers and other wild Scottish woodland birds. Keep an eye out for the warden filling up the feeders! You could even see a pine marten - their droppings have been found at the foot of the tree."

  • Oh dear... I rather wish you hadn't put up that link as I will NEVER get the ironing done now (wink). Seriously, it's lovely and thanks so much for posting it.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

I am thinking like you Squirrel and have things to do.

There are lots of distractions on here to avoid doing anything about the house. {naughty thoughts - how can I avoid the ironing today - yes I know!  {wink})

Juno: Watched the cam 11am - Juno and there are lots of Chaffinches on it and one Coal Tit trying to get in on the act too.  Very interesting to watch.  Busy little place.

    Good idea for the thread.

  • Keep an eye out for the I-wanna-be-a-woodpecker blue tit who spends an extraordinary amount of time trying to beak-bash his / her way into the box containing the squirrel food!

  • Having looked at list of "birds to see" I am now wondering if the "blue tit" was actually a crested tit! Oh bother! I'll just have to watch it some more to find out.... (wink)

  • I'm home from work early, so i'm able to see the webcam in the daylight, there are currently two red squirrels feasting happily.

I've been told, although not seen yet, the nice young male warden with Ginger hair who re-fills the feeders waves goodbye to the camera before decending the ladder.

Keep your eyes peeled for him, as in the colder months those feeders empty quite quickly.!   :-)

    Hi Squirrel

I hope that we see Crested Tits sometime - never seen one before in the wild.

    Juno: It is good that you have a chance to see the link after work  - I think you have a few of us hooked here.  Looking forward to your extra 'male' visitor when he comes in for a visit. {wink}

Just had a look at the link, and there is one really bossy Chaffinch chasing al the other birds away,  Never seen a chaffinch behave like that before.  There is more than enough food for all of them - hmm birds and their tummies.
