As with the 2020 season, barn owls did not use the box for breeding in 2021, will this year be different?

In answer to that question, yes!
9 eggs laid: Incubation period is 30-31 days
Hatches:
1st chick - 21.5.21 2nd chick - 23.5.22 3rd chick - 24.5.22 4th chick - 26.5.22 5th chick - 29.5.22 6th chick - 2.6.22 7th chick - ??? 8th chick - 5.6.22
Yes, we learnt so much observing the comings and goings, not only inside the nest box but in the barn too! Absolutely, we can't alter whatever occurs with this little family, Kate :)
Awh! that Mothers tender care, look at those wings wrapped around them, perhaps she knows like all teenagers they will soon fly the nest
At least 2 prey items on the flooring
Two eggs? 1 clearly on view, end of another to its right?
Reports/pics on chat show that chick #8(?) hatched at 22:34
Now I'm seriously confused as the dried contents of the badly marked egg (split in the front of the pic) were eaten my mum earlier today (as reported/shown on chat). Egg #9 (or chick #8) would have been at 33 days of incubation today and, as there is one more egg under mum (as shown in the pic on chat with the hatching chick), which number is it?
Morning all, Another scenario: Could it be that the marked egg was not #1 but one that somehow got damaged and a growing chick passed away inside it, therefore leaving the first one still under her now? Pics I took earlier...
Dates from laying to hatching don't add up correctly if we still have a viable egg.
Bless and Thank you, for trying to keep tabs on dates, wonder if the Trust iil do a blog at end of Season so we can compare?
Is this the one that had the black dot.?
Taken at same time.
Just coming on to post eggshell plus whole egg pic Kate very similar to yours ... saw on chat claims of eighth hatch!
