As with the 2020 season, barn owls did not use the box for breeding in 2021, will this year be different?

In answer to that question, yes!
9 eggs laid: Incubation period is 30-31 days
Hatches:
1st chick - 21.5.21 2nd chick - 23.5.22 3rd chick - 24.5.22 4th chick - 26.5.22 5th chick - 29.5.22 6th chick - 2.6.22 7th chick - ??? 8th chick - 5.6.22
Very soon as am losing mine due to Peregrine chicks getting too near edges of extremely high scrapes, lost one already due to high wind blowing it over! Sad
Might be more successes if supplementary feeding was allowed but that would upset natural balance of course! Pros & cons!!

Cant see clearly if another hatched..Back right, under her and of course the one at front
Thanks, Kate.
Pics on chat show male had delivered prey (and mated the female) at 21:03. They also show the female feeding the chick (I think only the one there) then it was mentioned that the prey was put to one side. Not sure if this is the same one
I missed getting the capture as the female changed position but, I could only see 1 chick with the brief glimpse that I had
Morning Sandra
Still just one as far as I can make out.Nothing on chat.
Think this is one eyed, but dont see any prey..
Yes it is, but what is he doing backed up in corner ? before I scapped full face.
What with one eyed trampling the chick earlier and Mum aggressively preening and then flicking it as she sits down, Tis a good job they are hardy.
I haven't seen it being fed yet and nothing on chat either.
They are very hardy, Kate.
This looks like prey so hopefully the chick has been fed
Actually, it was only this part (within the yellow box)
The female picked it up and ate it
She had a sift through the flooring before heading back to brood/incubate. The chick was moving about fine
Early hours 2nd arrival, I saw the shell first , the she kindly turned.
