Cornish Barn Owls 2018 (C) Barn Owl Trust & Wildlife TV ... all pics/vids posted with their kind permission!

Happy New Year everyone!

Great start with lovely captures of our pair ... but mighty strange about that 'third' one ... maybe a late 'first footer'  Lol!

Good to have some colour Scylla, hope you are continuing to improve!

Gales seem to be a bit of a fixture just lately, another blow overnight promised here, stay safe all!

  • Just had to reinstall Windows *boooohoooo*... so am testing new install of VLC and chose our precious CBOs for the purpose - and it turns out to be a dupe!  Too bad ;)

I'm so glad to see that you have company, dear friends :-*

  • Hi Scylla

always lovely to see you xxxxxxxx sorry though for your woes....

he is in box at moment.

  • Nice to see you Scylla :D

    20:10

    20:28 Onto the tray

21:02 A 2nd owl in and onto the tray. Lots of high-pitched screeches and continuous short, low-sounding rasps - from the female I assume.

She moved to the middle beam

    21:09

Male went to the left side of the box

    Then behind the box

    21:20

21:24 The female has disappeared but is in the barn somewhere as I can still hear her rasping

21:30 Headlights on and then he'd gone

21:40 EN/EB but can still hear calling

21:55 All quiet for the past 10 minutes

21:59 I heard a PS his the ground, rasping has started again. Into view on the back beam at 22:00

22:13 After spending time at the back preening, she finally left the barn

Immediate silence. Do you think these rasps could be classed as food begging calls?

23:45 Nothing else seen or heard. Goodnight

  • Morning  Sandra

Lovely to see them both.I do not have sound, but could well be , when you consider he had a prey in the Barn day before.

  • 17;25

    usual pre evening ritual CHOL:):)

  • Thanks Kate :)

20:15 On the middle beam now

    21:03

21:11 A 2nd owl in the barn assume it's the female. Loud high-pitched screeching on her arrival. Low rasping calls now.

21:14 Moved to the middle beam

    21:26

21:31 Female into the box, food begging calls

    Male left the barn 21:36

    21:39

    Investigated both near corners

    Preening

21:53 Left the box and out to the tray then the front beam. She hasn't made any calls for the past 10 minutes

22:00 After more preening, she flew to the middle beam then hid herself behind the diagonal. Still silent

22:07 Came into view for a few seconds before disappearing again. There are rasps but very few and far between.

22:30 Loud screech outside the barn. I haven't seen her leave the barn but it appears to be empty.

22:45 It has been very quiet since

    23:40 EN/EB and silent. Goodnight

  • Great sequence Sandra, do you think she  was searching box for food or suitable nesting areas?

  • Good morning Wendy and all.

I don't think she was searching for food and also she didn't scrape the floor debris either. Her calling stopped shortly after the male left the barn. It is progress, fingers crossed!

    Nestcam Diary update:

    June 2018

11th – there’s been an intriguing development the last couple of nights, as a presumed female has been food begging in the barn and even in the nestbox, with the male present!
