A year ago I saw a female Nuthatch gathering mud from a pond overflow in our local park [Christchurch Park, Ipswich] a week later my wife spotted a Nuthatch plastering a large hole up high in the trunk of a Beech [??] tree, Thursday this week I went back, one bird [Male] presumably was feeding the young whilst the female was making reparations to the mud
End May 2012
No activity but photographed the hole and the plastered work, looks like a GSW might have been around with a mark in the plaster
I came back half hour later lots of coming/going
Loadsa mud!
Trying it from a different angle

Thanks guys, you have to be in the right place at the right time, at a guess I would say this is probably the same pair that nested here last year, then, I saw a bluey green flash as I was sitting on a park bench looking at 5 Song Thrush, thought that 'it' had gone I turned round nd saw this [female??] Nuthatch some 10-15' away collecting mud, not wanting to frighten it off I half turned, pointed the camera and surprisingly snapped these, collecting the mud and somehow making it into a mud ball
How anyone can watch eg a football match on TV when this is going on around us all I would never know LOL!!!
