OK, I know we're still in the depths of winter, with much to come, but spring is waiting in the wings! It will be great to hear from you any details of these first signs be it early nesting birds, the first blossom, or a butterfly venturing forth in weak sunshine. If you have dates from previous years for comparison, these will certainly add interest, but we'll gradually build these up in years to come. Look forward to hearing from you - I'm sure it won't be long!

Doesn't have the tell-tale gape of a juvenile Graham, so I think it could be a bald adult blue tit (there's another thread about one here: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/forums/p/10485/75909.aspx#75909)

I take your point about the gape, but it was also being fed by other Blues from the feeders....? It was also the only one with unkempt feathers....whilst the others were all smart.....
Maybe it was a first-year......

I saw my first one yesterday whilst waiting at Fareham train station (and hey, it doesn't get more exotic than that). The butterfly was flying around just above the tracks, and was a really bright colour, somewhere between flourescent yellow and lime green. Actually, it looked kind of radioactive! No idea what it was, but a welcome sight nonetheless.

I now definitely have dunnocks and blackcaps nesting in the next door neighbours huge conifer that overhangs my garden.
There might be blue tits nesting there too.

Saw 6 bats on my way home from work last night! My first of 2010! :-)
Added to my comma butterfly the other day, today I saw my first brimstone of the year! And judging by your radioactive description Badgerbread, I think that is maybe what you saw as well. Take a look and see what you think...
