Birds Britannia

Did anyone catch this show on the Beeb earlier in the week? The first show was about Garden Birds and how they have become our birds that we love; a little about the House Sparrow and the Robin. Quite a bit of re-hashed material from other shows but all in all good tea and biscuit viewing. I thought the piece about the Robin was informative. Its red breast is synonomous with the blood of christ (blood from the wounds of Christ) and yet the bird is anything but pious when another Robin enters it territory. QC

  • I saw it QC! I thought it was very interesting in parts and will look out for the rest of the series. I was fascinated with the bit about the sparrows following rural folk into towns and cities when the population moved! And then the terrible things we did to them when there were food shortages. And I too loved the Robin bit, I didn't realise the Robin on Christmas Cards was because our postman used to be called Robins! As you say, good tea and biscuit viewing!

    bye for now

  • This is probably the 3rd time this has been shown well worth the repeat, well presented could do with more programmes like it.
