Tonight - Orcas on the Natural World

Tonights Natural World (BBC2 8pm or 9pm) is about Orcas and the people researching them and the problems they continue to face due to the bad nasty chemicals used decades ago!

  • Thanks Kat, I will record that for later viewing :)

  • Watched it avidly and thought it was great.  What great passion that Ingrid had and what a wonderful way of life although she seemed to be permanently on call 24/7 with distance being no obstacle.  I have always loved Orca - resident pods better than transients because of what they choose to hunt.  Have been lucky to see them close up around Vancouver Island x

  • Well worth a watch. Swimming with hunting orcas must be amazing, not for the feint hearted mind, thats 6 tonnes of dolphin, but some great footage of them hunting rays.

The fact that yet another top predator is being threatened due to humans use of PCB's, DDT and now flame retardents is really worrying, lets hope the New Zealand authorities get on it! All credit to Dr Visser for the amazing work! More info' here.

  • I'll be honest, I'm not usually too fond of documentaries on cetaceans, but this one was certainly an exception!  One of the best of the series so far (2nd to the Komodos, and I can't even remember what the others were about...).   Following Ingrid's work was fascinating and I hope that her aims to have the flame retardants controlled like PCB's and DDT proves to be a success.  Perhaps it is something we need to start thinking about here in the UK too...
