An interesting piece on Red Kites on 'The One Show'. Discussing the pros and cons of feeding them. They also pinch teddies!!! Some good, if brief, footage of other birds feeding too.

I have a friend who lives in Corwen North Wales and has a farm,I was up there a couple of years ago and I spotted a Red Kite,my friend told me there lots round the farm. They are a great sight.
john.
We have lots in our area, and I believe that they are fed as I have seen them flying with chicken bones in their talons.
I saw most of the red kite item on The One Show but am not sure if I missed the beginning of it. :-)
Best wishes Chris

Missed the programme unfortunately. Has anyone ever successfully fed a buzzard or a sparrowhawk using the methods people use to feed red kites?
I would love to have a go with my buzzard and sprawk.
Kind regards Jane.
Hi folks
I was lucky enough to go to Gigrin Farm in Wales which is a feeding station for Red Kites. The sight of literally hundreds of them all together was breathtaking!!!!!!
This is the website http://www.gigrin.co.uk/
Cheers

I'm sure Teejay has done. He posted a photo of a Buzzard in his garden swallowing a chicken bone, I think.
Over to TJ......

You shouldn't encourage me, Pip. Here's the guy in question. He came down, much to my surprise, to hoover up some leftovers from the red kites.
And just to encourage Drexyl, here's a red kite above my garden in the Thames Valley, just a few days ago.
Well worth making the effort to see and photograph, Jo & Paul. I hope you are successful.

Hi TJ
Another excellent shot of a red kite. :-)
I think I remember you telling us about the buzzard. Was I here at the time or was it last autumn while I was away?
Ay up Pipsqueak, welcome back, shiny new Avatar too.
You know me I love my Red Kites, got hundreds of photos of them.
At Argaty they only put out very small quantities of venison or goat, once a day, as they prefer the birds to feed themselves as nature intended which I think is a very responsible, whilst giving the birds a helping hand, they are not over feeding as can be seen in other areas.
It is part of a working farm ( Lerrocks Farm ) as well as having big hairy coos and sheep, pigs, donkeys :) and they farm with a view to supporting nature, right down to planting for birds and insects.
Argaty has played a major role in the reintroduction of red kites in central Scotland, working alongside SNH & The RSPB, I feel very lucky to have such a place within easy traveling distance from my home.
Fabulous photos of a Red Kite, and one of my favourite BoP's
I watched One Show tonight and i was amazed how this one cafe on a busy motorway had been going for 23 years, and they have feeding Kites 'tit-bits' for a long time
There are rules though:
It looks although Gilgrin are feeding everyday. Must be a different rule for others who feed Red Kites - TJ will let us know no doubt if it is allowed everyday.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
