We have recently seen a Nuthatch and a family (3) of Goldcrests in our garden, Never seen them before. SE9, South East London.
Hi George,
Hello from me to a new forum member.
I think we can tell by these kind of species entering our gardens now that winter is starting to take its hold and that thier natural food sources are becoming less.
Always nice to hear that Goldcrests are still around as the last winter did affect thier numbers.
Two cracking species of birds (excuse the pun)
Cheers

Hi George and welcome to the RSPB Community.
These days Nuthatches and Goldcrests are quite common city birds. They wander quite a bit during Autumnal foraging so can turn up whereever there is potential food or shelter. I seem to get a Nuthatch about every five years in my Cotswold garden though Goldcrests are far more frequent.
At this time of year a garden Rowan or Cotoneaster is your best friend. It might not pull in passing Waxwings but Redwings and Fieldfares are highly likely.

Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
