I am thrilled to follow a woodpecker family nesting in a big willow tree outside the front of my house. This afternoon I was greatly surprised to hear it hammering. The surprise being it was hammering on my blue tits box.
It certainly couldn't have been after insects as the box isn't old. It had made quite a good attempt at widening the hole.
Was it after the babies?
Hi Seabreeze
Welcome to the fourm.
Aye It was after the young in the box. They also knock holes in Bee Hives so they can get at the grubs.
Cheers
