Well, Springwatch starts again on Monday. I for one am looking forward to it although it has never been the same without Bill Oddie. I have a lovely personal memory of Bill. He was speaking at an event at the NEC in Birmingham and then was signing copies of his new bird book. It was lovely to meet him face to face. He was very shy but charming.
I live just up the road from Martin Mere WWT and I love it when the programme comes from there - so many familiar sights. I hope it returns there before too long.

LOL Linda, I don't believe it for one minute - you not knowing how to cook, a mother, never in a million years! It's lovely though to have your meal cooked for you by your other half some time. I have just mentioned this to my OH, he said......well actually it's probably better if I don't publish what he has just said !
Regards
Kerry

Hi Kezmo
So true.
It just leaves me with my mouth open at times what people do to animals.
Maybe it is reflection of how they view other people too, with no feelings or respect at all.

Susan H said: What a joy to see the humble sparrow starring on SW. Thanks Pip, kerry and Kathy for thinking about me. Paul will be sorry if he missed it. We Brits have done some bad things to our wildlife in the past, and here's hoping it is all in the past ... but we know it isn't. This evening I sat out in my garden with a glass of wine whilst hubby made the evening meal. Bliss! I was surrounded by my little treaure pots. I had put some mealworms down for them in various places, knowing the starlings had gone away for the day. There must have been more than 30 of them, including a few babies and many juveniles. Several of the adults were still collecting the worms, so more babies due soon I hope. They were chattering away and having such fun. Several took the opportunity to have a late in the day bath, and I was in heaven!

So Sparrow, a well deserved evening relax for you too. Heaven indeed!
Big hug and a glass of white raised to you.

Hi,
as an avid big bird race chap, with a tankard to prove I was in a winning team once; I am enjoying the bird race feature. Chris has the right idea- go to Hampstead heath and get Bill in as the local expert. Locals are worth their weight in gold :)

For advice about Birding, Identification, field guides, binoculars, scopes, tripods, etc - put 'Birding Tips' into the search box
Yes, it was great to see Bill. Fancy seeing 69 birds. That must be good going!
Oh dear everyone {sad}
The last Springwatch was on tonight and I found the whole series very interesting and informative and learned a lot about wildlife.
Loved the babies. and I feel so much for the Plover chicks being eaten by the Jackdaw - such a sad little event to happen to these beautiful birds. I remember seeing Kentish Plover chicks in Menorca last year and they where feisty little thing and full of energy. Quite a handful for the parent birds.
On a happier note about the misfortune of some birds, lots of birds fledged and moved on and there where a lot of happy endings for the birds involved.
Love Simon's underwater experience on the fish table - great idea for the programme along with the many BoP's appeared on the programme
Springwatch Unsprung is on at 8pm tomorrow night BBC 2, 8pm, for 30 mins so take note everyone.
There is also a programme called 'Wild Night In' this Sunday at 8pm, BBC 2 to do with raising funds for wildlife, so that will be interesting to see.
I will feel that my 8pm slot is gone now - long face here

Ah- I've recorded it- will watch it later. 69 isnt bad for London :) At this time of year the first 40 are straightforward, the rest are the tricky ones:))
On a good day in Norfolk, Kent or Dorset 100 would be possible by lunchtime in spring or autumn . In winter it takes a full day to get 100.
:)
Hi Kathy, me too, what a shame it's all over, it went by so quickly. I personally have really enjoyed it this year. Thanks for the tip on Unsprung and the show on Saturday, will definitely try to catch both. :-)
