BBC Springwatch

Well, Springwatch starts again on Monday. I for one am looking forward to it although it has never been the same without Bill Oddie. I have a lovely personal memory of Bill. He was speaking at an event at the NEC in Birmingham and then was signing copies of his new bird book. It was lovely to meet him face to face. He was very shy but charming.

I live just up the road from Martin Mere WWT and I love it when the programme comes from there - so many familiar sights. I hope it returns there before too long.

  • Hi Sparrow

Well done, you must be very proud.

  • Hi John + congrats on your owl photo - thought that it was 1 of yours when I saw it!!

The kids + I enjoyed doing the quiz that I think is back on the red button this pm - most of us scored 8 getting the heart rate of the shrew wrong - eldest son was v cross we didn't listen to him as he was 'on the button' great fun! Not sure what to do tonight as school is back on so late nights are out, so the kids should be in bed, although I do love them to watch it. No.3 gets so excited when the music comes on!!

How do we all feel that Kate is doing now? I still reckon she shouldn't be so Humble!! I sit there saying Kate you know that + YOU can tell us - you don't need to refere to someone else all the time!! Her knowledge of sealife must be really extensive!!

Great news. May I take the credit for mentioning Springwatch or are you a big fan like most of the rest of us?

Yes Pipit, you may take all the credit. It was your post in the other thread that alerted me to it. I am a big fan of SW but had recorded the episode so hadn't seen it at the time. So thank you !!!

My pic has only been added to their favourites on Flickr, not chosen for broadcasting. I'm not up there with the real celebs like John, but it's good enough for me and Snowdrop!!!!

    Cheers, Linda.

Actually Sparrow, when I re read my post I cringed a bit. I hope I didn't sound big-headed! Oops.

I think your Sparrow would have been chosen except that they showed an albino Sparrow on the show already. Rather stole the thunder perhaps. Well done indeed for being chosen for the favourites! It's well good enough for us lot too. :)

  • Great news Sparrow,  well done you. I'm sure Snowdrop is very grateful to you for thinking of her :-)

Thoroughly enjoying the show at the moment, there are so many great bits that it's hard to choose which are the best.

  • Nice one Sparrow, and come to think of it wasn't there a white Blackbird and Jackdaw on this site once? Chester Zoo rings a bell! not sure who, Mmm

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

  • The chap on SW this evening who lives on the island with the sparrowhawks has participated on this forum. He has posted some of his videos. Weren't those birds magnificent - and Paul, they were eating mice like yours does!!!!!

Hi Sparrow, I thought I recognised the name!   Fantastic footage of the Sparrowhawk, I just love that little mating dance.
