Spring arrived for me today!!

What a lovely day! Unfortunately I was in town all day (circumstances beyond my control) but got my reward this evening at home. Flying over the allotments behind my house were a group of House Martins, my first of the year. And while I watched them (with a HUGE smile inside me), a chiffchaff started singing from the old orchard.

WONDERFUL!!

  • What a lovely picture you paint.  Lots of Wildlife opportunities to be seen on Allotments.

Glad spring has sprung for you, hope it was sunny as well.

Spring sprung for me when I started mowing my lawns. :-)

  • Honestly Juno, it was fantastic!! I'm still smiling at the thought of it. My house is on a main road, but the allotments behind, the river trent close by and the old orchard and scrubby trees which belong to the old houses further along the road make it a haven for birds. They are now waking me up with their fabulous singing which I take as a privilege. So many people don't even notice it, how much are they missing???

And yes, it was really sunny too... lawnmowing tomorrow methinks.

  • Hello Ladybird,

You do sound full of the Joys of Spring, and long may it last.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Hello Sparrow,

I am full of the joys!! and it was even better today. I got up early and had a stroll down the allotments and saw Linnets (which i didn't even know lived around here) and a Willow Warbler (which I'm sure of because I heard it sing) and these were on top of all the usual birds I see most days.

I've lived here for three years and I'm only just beginning to realise the full potential of my local patch. Thank goodness for all the scrubby untidy uncared for land round here. It's a goldmine!!!

  • Good for you ladybird. It's the simple things in life that often give the most pleasure. Did you make the expedition to see the red kites near Leeds over Easter?
