Very excited today. Out on a murky Sunday morning walk we heard our first chiffchaff's of 2010.
A bit later it was a real gasp of breath moment as a swallow came swooping through the tiny village we had reached. They nest here every year, as do house martins.
Really wasn't expecting to see one just yet with all the grim weather.
This was on the outskirts of Brighton, anyone else seen any yet?
An egret changed my life!
Hi Billy,
Not seen any Swallows yet here in the Northeast!
Heard 1st Chiffchaff on the 18th March, heard a few more over the last week.
Great news that Spring has arrived, not so great that snow is forecast next week!

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Hi
I heard a chiff chaff yesterday in a small deciduous copse near to my house.
I couldn't spot it in the trees though. :-(
Best wishes Chris

Hi Billy
Plenty of chiffchaffs heard and seen at my local nature reserve near Reading.
I haven't seen any swallows yet myself although sitings have been reported on the local BerksBirds website. Looking forward to seeing them though.
Regards TJ

I just saw my first swallow today. A bit late I know but it is the first I have ever seen. I'm beginning to think I must have been walking around in blinkers for the past 62 years as I've seen more birds ( in real life) this year than ever. My first swallow,bullfinch.goldfinch.jay, greenfinch, long tailed tit and all in my own back garden . I suppose in reality I just wasn't looking for them in the past, too busy working and raising a family. Pity that we have to get old to realise what's important in life.
First swallow and house martin spotted today a couple of miles from Luton . I also observed an interesting difference of opinion between a red kite and a buzzard over the remains of a dead bunny. Lovely day.
