Hi there

I have my patio door open to my back garden at the moment
A Chiff Chaff has gone into full vocals in the bay tree at the back of my garden,
Great news to hear one is around.  It is still singing as I am typing this e-mail
Yes, the Warblers are sounding well once more - yipee!!

Regards

  • Oh lucky you !!  I would love to have one in my garden. Although my Bay tree has suffered a lot of ice burn so I am hoping it will recover when pruned back.

    Hi Birdwatcher

It is good news as spring is how it should be at the moment.  The sun is shining and that makes the day have a feel good factor.

The Chiff Chaff must be trying to get a territory of its own.

Love to have seen the bird but it was too well hidden in the tree.

Dave could hear its tune on the other end of the phone all the way to Glasgow!  The bird song seems to echo a little here so it is very clear to hear.

Hope that your Bay Tree recovers.  We have a smaller Bay Tree and it has recovered form a severe prune last year (more neglect before we moved in)

    Regards

  • That's lovely Kathy! Not heard one yet here!

Well it appears that Chiff chaffs are becoming more obvious around the UK.

Heard of other sightings also so time to keep our 6th sense alive now with that familiar song.

  • What with your Chiff Chaffs and your Warblers what lovely birds you have near you - I'm afraid to say I wouldn't know what a Chiff Chaff sounded like if it came at me with a megaphone - think perhaps I need to listen to some bird song to get to grips with all the calls.

Funnily enough we have a bay tree too and it's looking okay at the mo, it's tucked behind two other shrubs so I think they protected it from the worst of the weather.

    Hi Kezmo

Funny with us all having Bay trees in our gardens

Maybe Chiff Chaffs like the smell of the Bay Leaves LOL

Chiff Chaffs sound the same as their namesake - they sing 'Chiff Chaff 'and it is very easy to recognise a 'Chiff Chaff' sound so you cannot go wrong at all
