One clutch of frog spawn spotted at the pond in Chalkhill Nature Garden, Chalkhill Primary School, Wembley on March 2nd 2010. This is the first spotted in Brent this year and is about a week later than 2009.

Hello Martin. Excellent news
I don't think we will be getting any frog spawn in our pond this year. We found at least eight dead frogs in our pond after the snow and ice earlier in the year. We had a tennis ball in the water to stop the whole of the surface icing up, but obviously that wasn't effective enough this year. We've seen one live frog and a few newts during the last few days.
Hi Martin
I got frog spawn now, !! first saw it on 20/3/2010, only one clump. but its the first i have had only put pond in late last year.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Our frogspawn appeared yesterday after I had almost given up hope. In a good place this time too - a small extra pond with no fish instead of the larger one they usually choose where all the tadpoles got eaten in days.
There seems to be a plague of mating toads around at the moment too - all out and about looking for water.
I had frogspawn in both ponds (a small one for wildlife and a larger one with fish) on 24th February and just been outside to check it and a lot has hatched and now have tadpoles. I was surprised that the spawn hatched OK as for some of the time it was encased in ice!
Saw a toad last night but he looked very thin (last year we had a very fat toad who always seemed to hang around our back door in the evenings). I put out a few dried mealworms which had disappeared later.
So far we have not had toads breeding in the ponds but we do see a few round the garden.
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
