Some images from 31/01/10, wonderful sunny day, very cold, I spent a couple of hours at the sea side. the seal was fine, just waiting for the tide.
I must admit at first it looked doomed!
This one was not so lucky! 'thats nature' sometimes.
If you really listen, you can hear the sea! Sanderling
Long-tailed Duck
Grey Plover, twice
Bar-tailed Godwit.
Time for me to go, maybe more later. Hope you enjoy.
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Great set of shots John.
Glad you have had sunshine albeit in January, I've forgotten what it looks like.
I think we had a day last August or that might have been in 2008.

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Really lovely series of photographs. Humourous shot of the sanderling. I agree with Buzzard, it seems a long time since we saw a sun shining like that.
Beautiful photos, I love the sanderling photo!

Brilliant photos John. What a day - sun, sand, sea, seals and sanderlings. Heaven! Thanks for sharing it.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Thanks, it was great to see the sun and quite a shock too! One or two more to share from the day.

Goldeneye a split second before becoming an ID question!
For those who like Sanderling.
By the way, while I was out there, I called into the hide on river Eden. For the first time I saw no Kingfisher and the regulars there say they have seen none for a few weeks now. It made me think of the Kingfisher numbers thread towards the end of last year. Do they build numbers, knowing a bad winter is coming? and I wonder what numbers will be like this coming summer. What do you all think?
Lovely photos again John.
That's a good point about the kingfishers. With so much of their food source underneath frozen water for so long, I wonder how many will have been lost during the bad weather of December and January. Their numbers could have declined rapidly.
brilliant photos again John, The Long tail looking really showy , brilliant
Thanks John. Love to see sanderling scurrying all over the sand. We were remarking that on one of regular walks, we used to always see at least one kingfisher on the local small river, which is good for fishing, but we haven't seen one since late last Autumn.
