Across the lake I could see a dark coloured bird in a Willow Tree, on closer inspection I realised it was a Moorhen!
It was then joined by another tree climber!
It walked straight up this branch, I have never seen them climb before. I'm sure it is something they do on a regular basis!
Safe place to roost!

A return visit today 28/01/2010 I encountered the Moorhens now rock climbing.
A few photo's to enjoy.
Another lovely set Buzzard! Seems your moorhens are quite adventurous!

Great pictures! They do look strange up a tree, but this may be more common behaviour than we all might think, since moorhens nest in trees from time to time. Although the typical nest site is close to water in emergent or even floating vegetation, they do build a tree-nest now and again - up to 8 metres above ground! It does make you wonder how the chicks get down shortly after they hatch...
Hi Buzzard,
Great pics as ever and thanks for sharing them

Best wishes Chris

Great shots Buzzard, I've never seen them in trees - they must look very strange!
Super pictures again Buzzard.
As I had never seen them climb trees Trochilus, I have certainly never seen them nest in trees either, although I have seen a couple of species of ducks and always worry when the young jump out of the nest.
