Has anyone else got my problem?
Now the snow has gone I am left with an unholy mess everywhere. The snow has melted, but not the uneaten food, either scattered by me ontop of the snow, or thrown out of the feeders by the starlings. It is everywhere, mushy, wet, stuck together with bits of soggy crushed fat balls, in every part of the garden.
I have a real roblem because most of my garden is gravel. Gravel and seed don't mix well when trying to sweep up. I have had a go this morning, and ended up with bags full of sticky gravel.
Any suggestions for cleaning up?
Cheers, Linda.

Susan H said:This is all my own fault for scattering every sort of food available all over the place. I just hope Roland Rat doesn't find it or the neighbours will be reporting me to the you-know-who people. It is mostly seed, and lots of it, mushed up with soggy, greasy fat, mueseli and goodness knows what.
Hi Sparrow
Your description is making me feel positively unwell. Just as I was about to prepare supper too.
All sorts of things have emerged since the snow has melted but I'm please to say the wood pigeons, sparrows and chaffinches have been hoovering it all up. The biggest surprise was a mango that I'd carelessly allowed to become overripe. My resident fieldfare thought it was his birthday!

Diluted Jeyes Fluid is supposed to be good for killing mould on lawns caused by bird food - but move the feeders to another location first so that no ground feeding birds accidentally eat any seed which falls from the table/feeder and if you can, cover the treated area with a piece of plastic sheeting or some such.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hello everyone,
Same problem here but i think nature will clear up the mess, it will take a little time. One thing could help is place some sand over the grassed areas as it will help the grass grow and the mess rot down into the soil. Gravel areas either rake up wash it in a wheelie bin or try to wash with a hose, hope this helps.

If it aint broken, dont fix it !.... all good things come to those who wait !
I haven't put any food out today, the feeders are full & fine. The collared doves, wood pigeons & sparrows soon ate the mush as nothing else was on offer. I completely recommend this, still got some left though, but I am going to stop feeding for a few days until it is clear.
