Okay John, just for you - told you they were rubbish! They are just too high in the sky for me.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
That is where Kites are meant to be, love them, I was expecting shadows the way you spoke of them. We have colour and everything! I would be proud to have such 'true wild' shots of these. This would be more than welcome as my first shots for my collection! One day I will, people in my OH place of work tell of a place to go for a walk near Gleneagles that they say I will get my chance, so one day I will.
Thanks for this! :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
I don't want to make you jealous but I only have to go outside the back door most days! (which beggars the question "why haven't I managed better ones yet...").
We also have many Red Kites in this area and I still havent got a photo of one flying.
Wow! Superb shots Squirrel!! Like John I thought that you had a speck in the sky!! You have colour and the definite shape of a kite!! Excellent! How fantastic to have that from your back door!!

Mmm, Yes............:-)! Do you use a tripod, as hand held shots at distance when it comes to moving objects will always be hard no matter how long you try. If you can limit the movement at your end with tripod and remote trigger, your chance of improving what are already good shots, may grow. But at the end of the day timing is largely luck, be prolific, it will come. Have you tried to use photo software to just slightly remove the shadow on photo 1 as that looks quite sharp, to me.
Many thanks for the kind comments. The area they cover is, loosely speaking, a circle with my house and garden being roughly the centre of that circle BUT it is a big circle. Unfortunately the tripod wouldn't be of much use as when I see them I have limited time to get out and get the photograph before they are too far away. Plus I get the best photos when they are almost overhead. The other factor is that, obviously, I get the best close-ups (if you can call them that) when the cloud cover is low and dense because they have to stay below the clouds to see the ground (hunt). But both of those factors do detract from the quality of the photo because they are, really, in shadow. What I could really do with is them landing on the lawn! And, of course, something like Photoshop - which I do not have.
HI Squirrel
I think that your pictures are fabulous and I would be proud to have taken them myself anyday
The birds are high in the sky but you know that you took the picture and that is the main thing.
Well done to you.

Hi Squirrel
Absolutely fantastic shots! You obviously have very high standards you fraudster you! if I had taken your shots they would have been framed and on my wall by now as opposed to my many hundreds which are laying in my recycle bin on the PC! You do make me laugh! your'e much better at photos than you make out !! LOL :-D

Squirrel, you are your own worse critic. I would just love to say that I had taken those photographs. You may get a closer shot if you sat on the roof !!! Thanks from me.
Excellent pics - particularly like the silhouette effect of the first one :-)
