Sparrowhawk in my Garden

hi there

Sorry for the lack of posting and contact as I have been occuring minor PC problems - so it is touch and go whether I post at all.

About an hour ago I saw this Female Sparrowhawk feeding from prey caught in my back garden.  I did not see the kill at all, only the aftermath of the bird being eaten.

Sorry for the misty photos as a couple where taken through the glass window

I think it was either a Collared Dove or the Large Wood Pigeon it has got.  I hope that it was not the Collared Doves and the other bird will not have a mate - they like to be in two's {sad}

Not a bit of flesh left - all feathers on the floor and that is all.

Regards

Kathy and Dave

  • Nice thread Kathy and Dave, Good info and I think the same as Katie probable ex-House Sparrow. Quick snack for her.

    John :-)

    For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.

    Hi Lucybob

    Sorry missed your post Lucy. Yes, the windows are looking a bit worse for ware with all the weather we have been having - steamed up to keep warm comes to mind.

    It is hard to cope with death at the best of times - love our birds and birds eat bird - sadly. If only not!

    MarJus: I would love to get a close up but not to be - if only

    John: Thank you for your kind comments about my pictures - yes, one less 'Spuggie' in the world now.  wonder if the other members of the group we have are missing him.

    I have moved the ground feeders away from the corner area now, and more into the centre of the lawn - so the birds are not ambushed so easily.  They get an all round view of any preditors.  At least we are not too bothered with cats so that is good,

    Regards
