I know a few of us do the BTO Gardenwatch bird count each week, and I thought I would share my count for this week, ending yesterday.
That's 17 species in all. The most notable change is the reduction in numbers of goldfinches. I think Brenda has all mine now! Sparrows and starlings are a best guess.
Has anyone else done their count? Perhaps we could compare them?

I have just signed up for the BTO and my count is as follows
I I have not seen my Blackcap, wren or had any Blackbirds this week.
Also for anyone thinking of signing up to do the BTO Garden Birdwatch incluede in the £15 fee is a lovely book called Garden Birds and Wildlife by Mike tomms and Paul Sterry worth £14.99
It has an excellent guide to the most common Garden birds and also give info about other mammals and plants to attract wildlife. It's worth signing up just for the book (In my humble opinion)

However in Week 10 there was one on the sunflower hearts - and last week there were two. I hope it's not the start of an invasion!!!
I had one Ring necked parakeet in the snow but nothing since. They fly over daily in a noisy group but have not dropped in again

My BTO count this week? A big fat zero - been on holiday :-)
Did see my first ring-necked parakeet though this week - well 4 of them actually - at Pegwell Bay near Sandwich. Thought it was a ruddy weird green woody until the penny dropped - we don't get them up here in the perishing east!!

Hi Sparrow. give them time. They are spreading faster than bindweed!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi Sparrow They have been around the South East for quite some years now and I have seen them many times in Windsor Great Park and Hyde Park, but knowing your ability to attract birds, you should see them any day now!!

I'm not really laughing or smiling much today. It has been dull, dull, dull, and all my birds have disappeared. My pied waggie was there first thing but then he went, ONE SINGLE goldfinch for 10 minutes, 3 blackbirds still chasing each other, one rotund robin, some sparrows and dunnocks, no tits, believe it or not hardly any starlings, 6 jackdaws briefly, and a couple of ferals. The garden was so bereft of birds I spring cleaned the kitchen, or at least half of it. The rest tomorrow. I don't know why because it has been dry and milder than of late with a frosty night last night. My blue tit rooster is in bed, but I haven't seen him today either. Sob.
