What's moving where you are? We've heard some mentions of large jay movements on the east coast and there are a number of yellow-browed warblers turning up here and there. There have also been numbers of North American birds turning up on our shores so it's definitely worth taking a double take with any that don't look entirely familiar!
I've not heard any redwings or fieldfare overhead at night yet. We are still seeing plenty of house martins and swallows moving through, we had over 50 feeding around the reserve yesterday evening and a steady stream over throughout the day. Put your sightings on Birdtrack please!!!

I heard by first redwings few days ago, on a dark dull morning on the way to work. Really cheered me up. Lots house martins passing over too.

We have had a few Redwing and Fieldfare drop in and a couple of small falls of Blackbirds (all male) and 20 Robins in the hedges yesterday.Put on Birdtrack and the Blackbirds on BTO Thrush survey.

LOTS of Swallows feeding low over the paddocks 8.15 this morn, stopped off here 4 breakfast b4 heading SOUTH again ,Many young ones. Housemartins still roosting in nest under eaves.
Saw my first redwings on Saturday in Warwickshire, 4 birds heading roughly north mid morning.
Had a couple of sightings last week but only a single and a group of 6,no big numbers.We had a walk in one of the local areas that usually holds incoming Thrushes but not one,I think the wind in the wrong direction is holding them back at the moment.

After a quiet few weeks in the garden, early this morning - ten or so Blackbirds, three Mistle Thrushes, two Song Thrushes and one or two Redwings appeared. The sunlight was really low and so the thrush ID was difficult, but I did hear that scatchy, rattly call of the Redwings.
I also noticed that these birds seemed to be accompanied by small flocks of tits and finches plus one unidentified pale buffy coloured bunting/finch.

lots of robins suddenly appeared between thursday and saturday, all furiously singing away to book their territories. can't tell if they're migrants or residents moving back into the gardens for the winter.

Each morning, at this time of year when its still very dark and I am having my breakfast, I stand on my back porch and listen out for the Fieldfares coming in, none just yet, but give it time.
