More Fieldfares and Redwings

Hi all

We had 7 fieldfares and 2 redwings in the garden most of the afternoon, the fieldfares took to flying off with the apple pieces on offer and then returning for more.

We have very little snow here thank goodness

  • Hi forestpony,

that's great news about the Redwings and Fieldfares in your garden.  I'm amazed at the amount of sightings at the minute!  I'd never seen either one before but they seem to be in abundance!

Well everywhere except mine and Sparrow's gardens that is, LOL!

  • Hi Forestpony,

Congratulations on your redwings and fieldfares. Also your lack of snow!

I said I wasn't going to read any more threads about these birds, but here I am.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Its some kind of self torture isn't Sparrow, lol!

  • Hi forestpony!

The abundant snow in my area has brought one fieldfare in to my garden this week. It's been holding court for the the last three days, refusing to let any other birds enter the garden to eat (unless they're tiny and stick to the hanging feeders!). So far it's demolished two whole apples by itself in as many days. I have seen two others fly over and attempt to come to the garden but no such luck!

I see tons of redwings in the park when I walk my dogs, and they often fly past my garden and roost in the tree over the road but they have never actually visited me. Lucky you to be graced with their presence!

  • Hi All,

I have just counted a flock of over 50 fieldfares in my garden! (I lost count when they all moved).  What makes it even more amazing is that I live in a city.  The winter is so harsh they are coming to all the gardens.  Very exciting.

Hope that they stay for the foreseeable future.
