This morning at least a thousand geese were heading north a truly wonderful sight and sound. But shouldn't they have been gone by now? I'm near the Moray Firth so they are well on their way but does anyone know when the last geese will have migrated?
Geese spend the winter here in Britain and only migrate back to the Arctic in Spring to breed.
If they were heading north they would only be moving locally between feeding grounds and roost sites.

well thanks! I got it the wrong way round! Wonder where they were headed?
They will probably have been feeding on farmland during the day and go to roost in the marshes where they are safe from predators.
Well this was morning not long after sunrise and they were headed away from the river banks/marshy area where I know they roost so I guess they were off to find food!
