Osprey Autumn 2009 migration (from Scotland, unless we uncover some from ?).

The migration is well under way, so here is a list of birds to follow, with the latest position as I know it, from websites.....the list may be incomplete, so if you can please help, add any tagged ospreys that we can follow. So far in 2007, 2008 and 2009, we have not had any simultaneous fixes, I.E. two birds in the same place at the same time. Although visual sightings have been made of pairs or groups of ospreys.

RSPB, Mallachie, Sept 3rd, Hewell HM Prison, near Tardebigge, assuming she stayed there until this morning.

RSPB, Rothes, Dr Jones' sturgeon farm, Saint-Fort-sur-Gironde, Sept 2nd. (both as per this diary entry).

HFW, (Roy Dennis), Beatrice, Malagon, Spain, on the move, 11AM, 2nd Sep.

HFW, Talisman, fishing at Findhorn Bay, 1st Sep.

HFW, Nimrod, fishing at Culbin Bars, 1st Sep.

HFW, Morven, flying from Caithness in direction of Findhorn Bay, 1st Sep.

If past experience is followed, then Beatrice should over-winter at Guadiaro river which is 340 kilometres further on. Nimrod from memory was in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau last year and had a favourite river with mudflats and Morven was on the Atlantic  coast, in Mauritania and appeared to be spending every night in the desert. There were no trees where she was, so she was either on the ground or up on some rocks. Have I missed anyone? There may be some Scandinavian tagged birds this year.

This is just to let you know, I've put copies of all your photos of Mallachie on a special thread (i don't know what the French word is for that!) in the part of the Forum dedicated to the Loch Garten Ospreys, so that they don't get lost.

    Here's the link to it:

I hope this is OK, Sue

  • here are the last photos of mallachie

I'm very happy to have the opportunity to meet the rspb community and to please them with my photos.I've dreamed to take photos like that for more 1 year. That's why in August, with a friend of mine,I set up a dead tree near the NIVELLE river as a perch for osprey during the migration. When I saw mallachie I hide myself near the perch....10 minutes later, she came to perch,10 meters of my position...When I saw the antenna and the ring,I was sure she was an osprey "VIP".The menbers of "faune aquitaine" a french website, helped me to find you in order to let you know how she is getting on. This is a beautiful story. It was for me a moment of emotion.very many thanks..

  • barouin, rive east of the lac d'hourtin...you can see on a map with 'faune aquitaine' the place where a birdwatcher saw an osprey...

  • A heartfelt "thank you" Xalbai. I, for one, feel very lucky that you cared enough to find the RSPB site and keep us updated about Mallachie and I sincerely hope that you will continue to share your experiences and photos with us - perhaps of your local wildlife.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Merci Beaucoup . Les photographes sont excellente de le oiseau Ecosse.

  • Xalbai, Thank you very much for sharing even more lovely  photographs of Mallachie.

  • Xalbai, Thank you so much we are so pleased that you had the opportunity to take such wonderful photos of Mallachie and then to share them with us.

I would also like to thank SUE C for starting up a thread of Mallachie's photos, I had not realised there were so many and it is lovely to have them all in one place!!

  • Xalbai. Wonderful of you to set up the dead tree! Thank you - and Mallachie would thank you too if she could.

  • Thank you Xalbai, your photos of Mallachie are very beautiful and make us really happy to know she is well.

  • Hi Xalbai, la probleme nous avons avec ca......

    http://www.faune-aquitaine.org/index.php?m_id=54&id=695670
