Yesterday I was surprised to see a Hoopoe lookinig through the window. It then flew off and pirched onto of a pillar outside the house. I managed to take a photograph before it few off. I then went outside and could hear it calling sat on top of the house. Then it flew off. WHAT A SIGHTING!!!!!
Hi House Martin and welcome :)
Can I ask where this was?
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!
You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922)
There has been one or two sightings of Hoopoe recently you did not say where yous was. It's a nice sighting.

Hi House Martin and welcome to the RSPB Community. What a gem for an opening post!
I hope to catch up with a few myself next week (only they'll be the other side of the English Channel).

Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
Hi House Martin
A big welcome to the site and what a great start. A very special viisitor to your garden indeed. You also have the added bonus of a picture to remind you of that moment.
Look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Welcome to the forum, House Martin.
What a great bird to see from your window. Not many of us will ever get a sight like that in the UK. I wonder if it's the same bird that was seen at Berry Head?

Hi House Martin and welcome to the RSPB Forum. Enjoy yourself here
Love the photo of your Hoopoe - you are so lucky to see that outside your window
We have seen Hoopoes abroad only at the moment in the Canaries and Menorca
They are noisy verbal birds in flight, and have an unusual style of flying.
Unmistakeable to see
This is two distance, cropped photos I have of a Hoopoe in Menorca in 2009

Hello House Martin
What an impressive sighting, and a photo to prove it. A Hoopoe is enough to get the Twitchers out in force. If it stays in your garden you might be able to charge an entry fee for them to come and see it. Please would you consider reporting the sighting to your local bird recorder?
That is brilliant ,House Martin and to also get your photographs. Last time I saw one in the UK, I was nearly killed in the rush by the twitchers.
